Thanks Cofty - I can see that that works once I have a thread open, my avatar will give me that info. But what happens when I log in tomorrow and none of my threads are in the active list. I thought I'd be able to click on my avatar at the top of the screen next to my mail box.

Terry - I remember reading this thread months ago and feeling so impressed and amazed at how you handled the situation. It's been a while since I've visited this site and today I see your updates. And all I can say is wow!

Are Congregation Picnics still forbidden? If so, Why???

When I was a child in the early 80's we used to have congregation parties in a hired hall where entertainment would be put on and the highlight of the entertainment would be us children dressing up as characters from the bible and putting ona bit of a drama. Our voices and a soundtrack would have been pre-recorded weeks before and we would mime to it. Just like the assembly dramas but we would add a bit of lighthearted humour to it.

We loved rehersing for it. Best time ever and we would be so excited in the days running up to the actual performance.

Then a couple of days before one party we had been rehearsing for for weeks happened to fall on the CO's visit (Bryan Jewell UK if anyone remembers him) so we invited him and his wife Diane to join the party.

Then at the Thursday night meeting the elders announced that the party was cancelled due to the CO counselling the elders on having large gatherings. Apparently he predicted mass orgies and drug taking would take place.

We were devastated as you can imagine. And i will never forgive the elders for going along with it.

Not seen the video and not read any all of this thread yet.

It pisses me off because the parents and rightly so are going to all this trouble to prolong the life of their child. But if the childed needed a blood transfusion they'd probably allow him to die.

i'm a single hispanic guy in my mid 30s living by myself in suburban america.

i own a home in the kind of neighborhood where you have to get hoa permission to do just about anything, including chopping down a tree.

i'm a white collar worker and lead a pretty boring life.

I live in a suburban area in the UK (Wales) and we know almost all of our neighbours. We all chat outside regularily when coming home from work or shopping. We take it in turns to look after each others pets when going on holiday. When we go away I have a choice of asking 4 different people to look after my animals and that includes letting my chickens out each morning and locking them up at nght which is an inconvenience but they still do it.

I cook meals for the old folk occassionally. We socialise and attend birthdays, weddings and funerals of each other.

The age range is varied from older retired couples to families with young children.

I think having children helps as they tend to make friends easily and call for each other to play and therefore the parents make friends. However, we knew everyone very well in our road prior to having children.

OP - perhaps you are just unlucky and have ignorant neighbours with no manners
